77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 1.2. Items 11.3, 11.4 and 11.5
Statement:

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) represents over four million pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists and educators worldwide.

It is established that pharmacists are the most accessible health professionals and can deliver vaccines to vulnerable population groups in hard-to-reach and marginalized areas. To promote life-course uptake of immunization, pharmacists can:
1. Raise awareness of vaccination needs.
2. Build confidence in the value quality and safety of vaccines.
3. Distribute vaccines to communities, ensuring accessibility.
4. Expand and diversify vaccination infrastructure.
5. Simplify vaccination pathways and eliminate the need for a medical prescription when clear eligibility protocols have been established.

FIP recently assessed at least 56 countries are utilising pharmacies as vaccination providers. We urge all Member States where this is not yet possible to leverage pharmacists to increase equitable vaccination uptake and, in line with our commitment to Universal Health Coverage, when they think health to think pharmacy.
