77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 15.4 Climate change, pollution and health
Statement:

MSF commends the efforts of the WHO and MS in acknowledging the inextricable link between climate and health and urges the adoption of the resolution as presented. MSF underscores the importance of conducting vulnerability assessments, especially for those we serve in humanitarian settings who are already among the most vulnerable. These populations are experiencing losses and damages and should be prioritized within global and local initiatives like the Global Strategy on Health, Environment, and Climate Change, REACH 2035, and the Global Action Plan. MSF emphasizes the need to strengthen and invest in national capacities to implement tangible next steps, starting with integrating Health NAPs into all NAPs by 2030. Additionally, it is imperative to ensure health considerations feature prominently in NDCs, reinforced by 'the Alliance'. Ultimately, managing the climate crisis requires ending dependence on fossil fuels, which is essential for a healthier world.
