Universal Health Coverage is founded on the concept that all people have equal, equitable access to the full continuum of quality health promotion, prevention, treatment and care health services. Achieving UHC requires ending the pandemic of inequities. The urgency and extent of this pandemic, as with international disease spread, create a compelling case for a global health equity treaty. Based in the right to health, its core principles would include equality, participation and accountability. The treaty’s impact would come from its powerful standards and mechanisms for implementing these principles. Thus, an important step to achieve UHC would be developing and adopting a global health treaty on rights and equity.
