- Item 13.7 Health and care workforce
Statement:

Distinguished Members of the Seventy Eight World Health Assembley

To build resilient health systems, we must place family doctors at the heart of Primary Health Care teams. Working alongside nurses, social workers, and others, they deliver holistic, patient-centered care—from prevention and chronic disease management to mental health and rehabilitation—ensuring universal access.

WONCA is committed to developing a common, competency-based family medicine curriculum across WHO Regions, equipping family doctors with advanced skills in comprenhensive care across life course, telemedicine, point-of-care diagnostics and more.

We urge WHO to support national governments in formally recognizing family medicine as specialty, and in promoting education, training and continous professional development to enable effective interprofessional teamwork.
Strengthening family medicine is key to bridging gaps, reducing inequities, and achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Thank you.
