Item 11.8: Antimicrobial resistance: accelerating national and global responses

Honorable chair, distinguished delegates,

The World Medical Association – representing 10 million physicians worldwide – acknowledges the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a main priority for global health.

We strongly believe in strengthening healthcare systems to enhance resilience against AMR, particularly through supporting and investing in the health workforce to allow for better infection prevention and optimal antimicrobial prescription.

We furthermore want to highlight the inclusion of equity considerations as a cornerstone for all interventions to reduce the burden of AMR, ensuring that everyone has access to the medications and prevention measures needed.

We, therefore, call upon member states and non-state actors to lead actionable change towards equitable, comprehensive strategies to combat AMR together.

Thank you.
