Agenda Item:
- Items 12 and 13.1.
Statement:

The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) is grateful for the opportunity to address the Assembly on the vital topic of reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases. NCDs like diabetes are affected by a complex cascade of health determinants, highlighting the need for multisectoral prevention and control measures.

The WFN advocates for prevention and early intervention strategies for neurological diseases in accordance with the WHO Intersectoral global action plan on epilepsy and other neurological disorders. We also recognize the imperative of achieving control over important comorbid conditions such as diabetes, which causes diabetic neuropathy and increases the risk for cerebrovascular disorders, often with ensuing disability.

We maintain that equal access to essential medicines, trained professionals, including neurologists, and diagnostic tools is crucial for controlling NCDs and neurological conditions. Prevention and control of diabetes go hand in hand with reducing the burden of neurological disorders and achieving brain health and well-being for all.
