79th WHA Constituency Statements

Agenda Item:
12.6 Health in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Statement:

The world is not on track to achieve the health- and gender-related Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. As Member States shape the post-2030 framework, this is a critical moment to place health, equity, and care systems at the centre of sustainable development.
Health is fundamental to economic and social resilience, gender equality, climate adaptation, and wellbeing. Widening inequalities, dwindling Official Development Assistance, unsustainable debt burdens, conflict, and climate-related shocks continue to undermine countries’ ability to invest in health and social protection systems, leaving billions unable to access health services without financial hardship.
We emphasise resilient, people-centered primary health care systems and essential health services across the life course, including prevention through water, sanitation and hygiene; nutrition; timely diagnosis; rehabilitation; palliative care; and sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and older person health.
Looking beyond 2030, we urge Member States to:
Advance sustainable health financing grounded in domestic public investment and fair fiscal policies;
Invest in resilient, gender-responsive health systems and primary health care to achieve universal health coverage;
Strengthen accountability through inclusive data systems, gender-inclusive research, and equitable access to health technologies;
Promote meaningful social participation in health governance; and
Increase investment in the health and care workforce, the majority of whom are women, including leadership, equitable pay, and safe working conditions.

Thank you.
