The United Nations Foundation supports the decision to approve the updated global action plan on antimicrobial resistance.
Coordinated through the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat, the plan provides an important framework for strengthened multilateral and multisectoral action on this urgent challenge. It is also an opportunity to scale proven approaches. Achieving the plan’s objectives, however, will require increased political leadership and investment.
AMR is among the most pressing challenges facing modern medicine, sustainable development, and human rights. Yet, progress on this agenda is too slow, and the gap between commitments and implementation could widen amid competing priorities and shrinking fiscal space.
The alarming rise in resistance compels us to step into a new era of policy and partnership. We urge Member States to use this Assembly and upcoming milestones, including the ministerial meeting in Nigeria, to refocus and reinvigorate collective efforts to translate commitments to sustained financing and measurable accountability.
