78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 15. Antimicrobial resistance
Statement:

AMR is undermining progress in cancer treatments. People with cancer are up to three times more likely to suffer from drug-resistant infections compared to those without cancer.

The forthcoming update of the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR presents an opportunity to implement comprehensive AMR strategies and improve cancer treatments.

We urge WHO to reinforce the importance of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) and train health workers accordingly.

We encourage Member States to update their NAPs as per the updated Global Action Plan and

Integrate AMS principles within national health strategies, ensuring a one health approach

Support training programs for health workers, including cancer health workers to promote rational prescribing practices

Adopt policies to improve access to quality antimicrobials, diagnostics and vaccines
