77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 1.3. Items 11.6, 11.7, and 11.8
Statement:

AMR is undermining the progress made in cancer treatments and infections are the second leading cause of death in cancer patients.

To continue to improve cancer care and NCD outcomes we urge Member States to:
• Appropriately fund National action Plans for AMR and consider additional funding mechanisms that include international donors and public private partnerships.
• Ensure provision of data into WHO’s surveillance system (GLASS).
• Adopt multisectoral policies for access to quality antimicrobials, diagnostics and vaccines to help address the huge problem of lack of access, particularly in LMICs.
• Support the establishment of the Independent Evidence Panel, as recommended by the Interagency Coordination Group on AMR, to develop effective evidence-based policies.
• Adopt the 10-20-30 targets set out in the recent Lancet series on sustainable access to effective antibiotics.
