77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 1.2. Items 11.3, 11.4 and 11.5
Statement:

UICC welcomes the draft global action plan. Antimicrobial resistance poses a threat to cancer care and is undermining the significant progress made in cancer treatment. Infections are the second leading cause of death in cancer patients and an essential component in avoiding these deaths is good IPC practice.

IPC implementation is critical to continue to improving cancer care and so we urge Member States to:
• Put in place resources and pathways to update guidelines on IPC
• Engage the oncology and NCD health workforce in IPC training and coordination at national and health facility levels
• Include the NCD community in advocacy and awareness-raising on AMR highlighting the importance of implementing good practices in IPC.
