The Save the Children Fund
78th WHA Individual Statements
As the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition ends, only two of six global targets are on track. Save the Children urges Member States to support Ireland’s resolution to extend these targets to 2030 and strengthen them to ensure no one is left behind. Key gaps must be addressed—including the exclusion of adolescents aged 10–19 from the anaemia target. But extending the timeline alone is not enough. Operational targets are essential to drive progress. While we support WHO’s proposed operational targets focused on prevention, the absence of a treatment target is a critical gap. With 13.6 million children suffering from severe wasting—the deadliest form of malnutrition—and only 37.8% receiving care, a treatment coverage target is urgently needed.
