79th WHA Individual Statements
The people working in the industries that fuel AMR are being ignored. Meat and dairy workers across the supply chain are on the frontlines of exposure to dangerous resistant pathogens, placing their health, and that of their families and communities at risk. They labour under precarious conditions.
AMR is not only a public health crisis, but also an occupational health and labour rights issue. Yet responsibility is too often shifted onto workers themselves, rather than the industrial systems and employers that expose them to harm.
What does a just transition look like for workers in the meat and dairy industries, and the public authorities regulating them? Who protects workers from the risk of AMR? We call on Member States to recognize AMR as a workplace hazard and implement strong occupational health and labour protection regulations addressing AMR.
