78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.7 Health and care workforce
Statement:

We welcome the DG’s reports on the WHO Global Code of Practice and the HRH Global Strategy. We support the reflection of current implementation challenges in the review of the Code. We urge the inclusion of trade unions in the regional consultations of Member States to review the interim report of the EAG.

We have serious concerns about the practices of private recruitment and placement agencies. Private businesses should not profit by exploiting migrant health and care workers. Governments need to ensure strict regulation of these for-profit-bodies and keep health and care services in public hands.

We support the call for accelerated action to protect, support and invest in the global health and care workforce. We urge Member States to take all steps necessary for adequate employment and provision of decent work for health and care workers in line with the Workforce 2030 strategy.
