77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 15.4 Climate change, pollution and health
Statement:

PSI supports adopting the report and welcomes Member States prioritising climate change as a health crisis. We urge Member States to highlight the danger of fossil fuels as commercial determinants of health and planetary health inequity, and boldly call for the corporations behind them as was done with the tobacco industry.
Building the capacities of Member States to respond to the climate crisis and decarbonise their health systems and societies requires solidarity and application of the Common But Differentiated Responsibility principle to financially and technically support LMICs.
We call on Member States to strengthen primary health care for universal public healthcare towards embedding climate resilience in health systems and promoting active involvement of communities and the health workforce.
