78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 24.2 Review of and update on matters considered by the Executive Board were discussed during the 156th Executive Board meeting in February 2025.
Statement:

NCD Alliance urges Member States to adopt the extension of the Global Action Plan on Dementia in response to the growing global crisis. With only 26% of countries having national dementia plans, we call for urgent integration of dementia into national NCD strategies, expanded diagnostic capacity, and caregiver support services under UHC to close persistent implementation gaps.

We also welcome the resolution on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition, supporting more ambitious 2030 targets to reduce childhood overweight and increase exclusive breastfeeding. Member States must accelerate implementation of evidence-based nutrition policies, including SSB taxation and healthy diets ‘best buys’, and strengthen legislation aligned with the International Code.

Cross-sectoral alignment, conflict of interest safeguards, and monitoring are essential to protect mothers and children, and to prevent diet-related NCDs across the life course.
