78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Items 16.1, 16.3, 16.4, 17.1 and 17.4
Statement:

Distinguished delegates,

74% of mortality is caused by noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), and people living with NCDs face particular challenges in emergencies, due to disrupted health systems, and vulnerability to infections and severe illness. Humanitarian needs are now increasing, often caused by the climate crisis, and armed conflicts.

Member States need to integrate essential NCD services through PHC before, during and after the emergency cycle, to deliver a coordinated emergency response, and to protect supply chains to maintain access to essential NCD services, medicines and supplies. Improving health information and monitoring systems and research on the NCD burden will support more effective service delivery and models of care.

Thank you.
