Statement:

Honorable Chair, Esteemed Delegates

Medicus Mundi International (MMI) welcomes the Director-General’s report on Health and Care workforce as well as the draft decision “Accelerating action on the global health and care workforce by 2030”.

The interim report of the Expert Advisory Group shows that there is a need, but also tracks, to strengthen WHO Code of Practice.

MMI sees a need for action in strengthening the rights of healthcare staff and their trade union representatives. Too often, a lack of rights makes it impossible to include healthcare staff in the organization of the working environment, in the health policy framework, but also in bilateral agreements. In other words, social dialogue must be strengthened in the healthcare systems of the member states.
Thank you.
