Medicus Mundi International – Network Health for All
78th WHA Individual Statements
We welcome discussion on the global climate and health action plan, but the plan fails to confront reality. We are on track for a catastrophic world of at least 3°C warming. At 3°C, health systems will collapse under environmental and social strain; billions of lives and livelihoods will be at risk. The plan’s reliance on techno-fixes and incremental adaptation ignores the root causes of climate breakdown: fossil fuel dependence, extractive economies, the agro-industrial complex, and militarism. Crucial pathways to resilience, such as debt cancellation, climate reparations, Public Pharma and corporate taxation are entirely absent.
Climate-resilient health systems must be decentralized, community-based, and rooted in local knowledge. We need Community-based solutions to have health in a 3°C world.
