Statement:

12.1 Follow-up to the political declaration of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) welcomes the focus of the political declaration on prevention and control of NCDs on practical pathways to improve access to medicines, including the use of voluntary licensing and technology transfer to strengthen local and regional capacity.

As implementation moves forward, MPP is committed to using these access pathways to accelerate access to innovative treatments in developing countries, such as GLP-1s for diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, and immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer, contributing to close the health equity gap.

MPP is ready to work with WHO, Member States and other stakeholders to identify additional priority medicines and support timely, equitable access through licensing and technology transfer.
