Medical Women's International Association
79th WHA Individual Statements
The Medical Women’s International Association welcomes the historic progress achieved in elevating antimicrobial resistance on the global health agenda.
However, high-level dialogue and expert consultations often overlook that the 4.7 million AMR-associated deaths are part of the 21 million Sepsis-related deaths estimated during the pandemic year of 2021.
Member States now have access to country-specific estimates on Sepsis and AMR through the Microbe database developed by IHME and the University of Oxford.
We reiterate that Sepsis is the human face of AMR. Sepsis is the final common pathway to death. Therefore, AMR and Sepsis policies and programmes must be synergized.
We stand ready to collaborate with Member States and stakeholders to strengthen the necessary synergies.
