78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Items 12 and 13.1.
Statement:

The Medical Women’s International Association, with 105 years of advocacy work in women’s health and representing women physicians from over 70 countries worldwide, welcomes the increased availability of sex-disaggregated data stated in the Director-General’s report.

These data are critical in helping to close the gaps in women’s healthcare.

We call on Member States and global health stakeholders to prioritize investments in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in women.

There is an urgent need for more effective innovations in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases in women - including cardiovascular disease, mental health conditions, cancer, and other NCDs.

We therefore call for greater investments in Global Women’s Health Research and Development.
