78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.7 Health and care workforce
Statement:

The Medical Women’s International Association represents 12,000 female physicians from 8 geographic regions.

We emphasize that the WHO projects a shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030, and that 67% of the health and social workforce are women.

We urge the full-scale implementation of the Global Code on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel, particularly in emergencies, and call for the ethical recruitment of health professionals from countries listed on the WHO Support and Safeguard List.

Finally, we call on the Member States, and multiple stakeholders to ensure long-term financial investments in human resources for health, and to secure sustainable and equitable employment opportunities for women and young professionals.
