77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
13.4 Intergovernmental Negotiating Body to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response
Statement:

IntraHealth International and the Frontline Health Worker Coalition urge greater and more strategic global investments in health workers in low- and middle-income countries as a cost-effective way to save lives and foster a healthier, safer, and more prosperous world.
We would like to express support for and propose changes to Article 7 on the health and care workforce in the INB’s negotiation text:
- Provide clarification that creating and retaining a multidisciplinary health and care workforce encompasses clinicians, public health professionals, and community health workers.

- Improve equity in the health workforce, ranging from fair remuneration to increased leadership of women in the health sector

- Promote continued long-term investments in a health workforce that goes beyond pandemics and ensures a sustainable, multidisciplinary workforce of health workers equipped to deliver quality essential health services in both stable and fragile settings.
