78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 14. Health in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Statement:

Estimated delegates,

The International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, with support from the World Rehabilitation Alliance, emphasizes that rehabilitation—by optimizing individual functioning in interaction with the environment—plays a key role in achieving SDG 3 on health and well-being, other SDGs, and the commitment to leave no one behind.

The World Health Assembly Resolution 76.6 notes that rehabilitation is essential health strategy for achieving universal health coverage, increasing health and well-being, improving quality of life, delaying the need for long-term care and empowering persons to achieve their full potential and participate in society.

As Member States are called to accelerate efforts to achieve SDG3 and the entire 2030 Agenda, we urge them to improve access to quality rehabilitation services and assistive technology to meet the world population’s health needs and foster inclusive, sustainable development.

Thank you
