Agenda Item:
- Items 16.1, 16.3, 16.4, 17.1 and 17.4
Statement:

Estimated delegates,

Health emergencies often generate rehabilitation needs, whether due to newly acquired or pre-existing conditions, frequently exceeding health system capacities.
Early rehabilitation during emergencies improves recovery outcomes, reduces long-lasting functioning limitations, and prevents complications, thus lowering long-term costs.

The International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, with the support of the World Rehabilitation Alliance, urges Member States to address the immediate and long-term rehabilitation needs of those affected by emergencies by:
· Recognizing rehabilitation as essential in all phases of emergencies;
· Integrating rehabilitation services and assistive technology in emergency preparedness and response, in alignment with WHA Resolution 76.6;
· Equipping emergency medical teams with rehabilitation capacity.

Thank you
