77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
13.4 Intergovernmental Negotiating Body to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response
Statement:

Esteemed delegates, Excellencies and Honourable Chairperson,

IFMSA firmly believes in the pressing need for effective pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response from the global health community worldwide.

Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPR) are essential for safeguarding public and global health by preventing the spread of infectious diseases, reducing the strain on healthcare systems, ensuring economic stability and maintaining global security.

We must also emphasize the importance of international cooperation and integrating multidisciplinarity through a One Health approach. Only in this way can we enhance resilience and equity in global health. Health workers and youth alike must uphold this shared responsibility while governments provide mechanisms for their involvement.

Let us unite today to build a resilient and responsive global health network, recognizing the situation's urgency. We urge the member states to build on the progress made and collaborate to deliver an accord to safeguard our future. The time to act is now, ensuring a healthier, more secure future for all.

Thank you
