Distinguished delegates,
Climate change threatens to cause 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030 and 2050, with the most vulnerable communities facing the greatest risks. Despite contributing the least, they suffer the most.
IFMSA welcomes the draft Global Action Plan on Climate Change and Health and calls on:
- The WHO to provide technical support to governments on integrating health equity into climate strategies and to track equity indicators under the Global Plan of Action;
- Health-related NGOs to include climate-vulnerable communities in policy and service design;
- Member States to allocate adequate funding, enforce environmental protections, and ensure equitable access to climate-resilient healthcare.
For fulfilment of these actions, stakeholders must remain steadfast, demonstrating unwavering commitment, resilience and accountability to avoid preventable and unnecessary suffering.
Thank you.
