International Federation of Medical Students' Associations
78th WHA Individual Statements
Esteemed Chair and distinguished delegates,
The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations welcomes the progress achieved through the Global Strategy but stresses the urgent need to accelerate its implementation. Millions, especially adolescents, are still being left behind, and their health needs are often neglected.
Therefore, we urge:
- Removing the barriers that hinder access to sexual and reproductive health services, including stigma and restrictive policies on bodily autonomy and family planning.
- Developing interventions where youth co-create solutions, addressing our needs.
- Adopting gender-transformative approaches to build health systems that challenge gender norms and power imbalances.
IFMSA emphasises that the Strategy's outcomes are not merely numbers, but lives saved, dignity upheld, and rights fulfilled. Every missed target affects people whose futures depend on our commitment and action. We must act now to ensure no one is left behind and that health systems are inclusive, rights-based, and youth-centred.
Thank you
