78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.4 Communicable diseases
Statement:

Honorable Chairperson, Distinguished Delegates,

The IFMSA calls for urgent and concrete action to tackle communicable diseases, particularly in underserved communities.

We urge WHO and Member States to:
- Integrate communicable disease prevention and management into health education, ensuring all healthcare students are trained in early detection, response, and One Health approaches.
- Expand equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments by scaling up supply chains, strengthening primary health care, and removing financial barriers for vulnerable populations.
- Actively engage youth in policy making and program implementation, creating platforms for youth-led public health campaigns and community outreach initiatives.
Incorporate stigma reduction and misinformation strategies into national action plans, leveraging youth networks and technology to raise awareness and improve health literacy.

Youth are ready to act to combat communicable diseases. We call for our inclusion in building resilient, inclusive health systems that leave no one behind.

Thank you.
