78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.3 Universal health coverage
Statement:

Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,

The IFMSA supports the adoption of the proposed resolutions addressing key barriers to Universal Health Coverage. These are timely and urgent steps, especially in the face of growing global health inequities.

Universal Health Coverage cannot be achieved without a strong Primary Health Care approach that addresses social and structural determinants of health, ensures financial protection, and reaches the most vulnerable communities.

We urge Member States and the WHO to:
- Prioritise health system reforms grounded in equity and people-centred PHC;
- Ensure sustainable public health financing to reduce out-of-pocket costs;
- Invest in the health workforce through fair remuneration and decent working conditions;
- Advance digital health and AI with accessibility, privacy and equity in mind;
- Engage youth meaningfully in shaping UHC strategies and policies.

As future health professionals, we are ready to contribute. We call on you to recognise youth as partners in shaping the future of equitable health systems.

Thank you.
