78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.2 Mental health and social connection
Statement:

Honourable Chair, esteemed delegates,

The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations stresses the urgent need to address mental health and social connection as integral components of public health. Mental health challenges, exacerbated by social isolation, loneliness, and global crises, disproportionately affect youth, marginalised communities, and those in vulnerable settings.

We call for:
- Integrating mental health services into primary healthcare, ensuring accessible, affordable support for all.
- Promoting community-based initiatives that foster inclusivity and resilience.
- Adopting a "Mental Health in All Policies" approach, acknowledging social determinants of mental well-being.
- Active involvement of young individuals and with lived experience in developing and executing mental health policies and programs.

We need to commit to holistic, inclusive, rights-based action that promotes mental health literacy and leaves no one behind.

Thank you.
