78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Items 12 and 13.1.
Statement:

Honourable Chairperson, Distinguished Delegates,

IFMSA calls for urgent, multisectoral action to address the growing burden of NCDs. Member States must prioritise prevention, equitable access, and youth engagement to accelerate progress toward the 2030 targets.

We urge Member States to:
- Strengthen multisectoral collaboration by mainstreaming NCD prevention into national policies, leveraging platforms like the Global Coordination Mechanism (GCM) to foster inclusive partnerships with youth, civil society, and non-state actors.
- Empower young people and people from lived experience through meaningful engagement in policy-making and implementation, as in the WHO Framework for Meaningful Engagement of People Living with NCDs.
- Invest in community-driven prevention efforts, including health promotion campaigns, taxation of harmful products, and ensuring access to culturally safe services and essential medicines for underserved populations.
- Strengthen data systems and accountability mechanisms to track progress, ensure transparency, and guide evidence-based interventions, particularly in primary care and vulnerable communities.

Youth are ready and committed to leading change. Let us work together for sustainable, inclusive, and equitable solutions to combat NCDs globally.

Thank you.
