Agenda Item 12.6
Health in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Millions of people survive NCDs and injuries and live with persistent functional limitations or disability, facing limitations in daily life and participation. Rehabilitation optimises functioning, determining whether people return to work, access education, and rebuild after crisis.
The International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders, supported by the World Rehabilitation Alliance, notes with concern the absence of rehabilitation and functioning from Agenda 2030 indicators. What is not measured cannot be financed, prioritised, or held to account.
Functioning, sitting alongside mortality and morbidity as a third dimension of population health, is essential for measuring rehabilitation outcomes. We call on Member States to incorporate rehabilitation and functioning into SDG3 and the post-2030 blueprint.
