Agenda Item:
- Item 15. Antimicrobial resistance
Statement:

FDI World Dental Federation and the International Association for Dental Research welcome the Director-General's report.
Adopting global targets to reduce preventable AMR-related deaths, ensure appropriate antibiotics use, and improve access to quality diagnostics data can enhance accountability and coordinated action. However, only 29% of 170 countries reported estimating, budgeting and monitoring their national AMR action plans.
We call on Member States to:
• reflect the global AMR targets in national AMR action plans,
• allocate sufficient resources to support implementation, surveillance and reporting, and
• invest in research to strengthen effective evidence-based stewardship across health systems.
Dentists prescribe up to 10% of all outpatient antibiotics prescriptions globally. We therefore support mainstreaming AMR interventions in primary healthcare and integrating AMR in curriculums for health workers. We strongly recommend engaging oral health professionals in developing and implementing national action plans.
