78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.7 Health and care workforce
Statement:

We call upon member states to strengthen the WHO Code of Practice with a view to protect health and care workers and strengthen health systems especially in the Global South. We demand that the profiteering by corporate captured healthcare systems at the cost of public health must be stopped. We demand fair and ethical recruitment of migrant health and care workers. Laws must ensure that migrant workers are treated fairly and equal with local workers, and that migration does not create shortages of health workers in poorer countries. The WHO Code of Practice, international human rights norms and labour standards are fundamental to rights-based and socially-sustainable migration policy in the health sector and should be respected by both private and public institutions. We call on MS to promote international knowledge-sharing and to act in international solidarity for strong, well-funded quality public health services globally.
