Statement:

CBM Christian Blind Mission Statement on Item 11.2 - Follow-up to the political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
Documents A77/4 and EB154/2024/REC/1, decision EB154(7).

CBM Christian Blind Mission welcomes the report on prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, mental health and well-being, as well as the Board members’ statement highlighting the need to include NCDs in Primary Health Care and Universal Health Coverage.

430 million people live with hearing disability and ear diseases, facing health inequities and social exclusion. The lack of awareness and limited Ear and Hearing Care services within Primary Health Care, are key contributing factors, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

The “Call to action” outlined in the World Report on Hearing, provides the roadmap to address these disparities. CBM supports WHO’s EHC programme and contributes to its implementation within national frameworks, in a multi-stakeholder and participatory community-based approach for sustainable impact.

CBM welcomes the Slovak Republic’s call for a new resolution on Ear and Hearing Care in next governing cycle 2024-2025, we kindly encourage Member States to join the initiative.
