Alzheimer’s Disease International
78th WHA Individual Statements
Alzheimer’s Disease International strongly welcomes Member States’ contributions and support, to date, for a 6-year extension to the Global Action Plan on the public health response to dementia. It is our hope that with this extension, each Member-State will fulfil their 2017 commitment, including developing and implementing a National Dementia Plan.
Mortality data published earlier this year suggests that dementia will be the 3rd leading cause of death globally by 2040. Forecast prevalence figures highlight an increase to 78 million people living with dementia by 2030 and 139 million by 2050.
The global action plan on the public health response to dementia remains the best tool available to governments to support those living with dementia, their carers, healthcare systems, and the wider society.
