STEPS
This is the first STEPS conducted by British Virgin Islands.
STEPS is a household-based survey to obtain core data on the established risk factors that determine the major burden of NCDs.

Scope
The following topics were included in the survey: tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet, physical activity, history of raised blood glucose, history of raised blood pressure, history of raised total cholesterol, history of cardiovascular diseases, lifestyle advice, family history of NCDs and health screening. Additionally, the following measures were taken: blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose and total cholesterol.

Sampling
A cross-sectional stratified random sample, stratified by age and sex was conducted on a representative sample of the population. Please refer to page 14-15 of report for further information.
The overall response rate was 67.8%.
Data were not able to be weighted. Population-adjustment weights are included in the dataset for each Step:
wStep1 - for interview data
wStep2 - for physical measures
This allows for differences in the weight calculation for each Step of the survey as the age-sex composition of the respondents to each Step can differ slightly due to refusal or drop out. Additionally, some countries perform subsampling for Step 2. When no subsampling is done and response rates do not differ across Steps of the survey, the weight variables will be the same.
wStep3 was not created due to the low response rate (only 50% of participants were asked to participate in Step 3).
