In December 2006, the United Nations General Assembly, at its 61st session, adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, commonly known as the “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, together with an optional protocol recognizing the right of individuals and groups to submit complaints. Bahrain was one of the first countries to sign the Convention, joining the more than one hundred States which ratified the Convention and optional protocol in New York in March 2007.

The present report provides an overview of the general status concerning the implementation of the Convention in Bahrain, with a particular focus on relevant laws and policies.
