Description

A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030 (the Strategy) sets the foundation for building a more inclusive Western Australia, empowering people with disability to participate meaningfully in all parts of society and to have the resources to do so.
The four Pillars of change were developed by the Co-Design Group and underpin the Strategy:
(1) Rights and equality; (2) Inclusive communities; (3) Participate and contribute; (4) Living well.
All Western Australians have a responsibility in creating the type of community we all want to be part of and proud of. The most important shifts we need to make are to: (1) Respect and safeguard the rights of people with disability. The fundamental rights of people with disability are an essential foundation; (2) Change community attitudes to disability; (3) Celebrate our diversity, recognise the achievements and everyday experiences of people with disability living, working and participating in the WA community; (4) Make services, systems, workplaces and environments accessible and welcoming for everyone. It is up to these systems to lead the change and work for people that access them; (5) Increase the visibility and understanding of disability in our communities. Greater representation in the media and in leadership roles are important ways of demonstrating the contributions of people with disability.
This Strategy provides the roadmap for achieving these shifts over the next 10 years.
