Description
The present report of the Special Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council on the rights of persons with disabilities, Catalina Devandas-Aguilar, focuses on disability-inclusive policies. It is submitted to the General Assembly in accordance with Human Rights Council resolution 26/20.In light of the inequality experienced by persons with disabilities worldwide, the Special Rapporteur seeks to provide guidance to States and other actors on how to establish disability-inclusive policies that are in conformity with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and which can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. To ensure the effectiveness of such policies, which should include non-discrimination, accessibility and support service requirements, States must adopt a clear policy framework for the inclusion of persons with disabilities across all sectors of society.
