قانون الصحة النفسية رقم (١) لسنة ٢٠٠٥
استنادا الى احكام القسم الثاني من ملحق قانون ادارة الدولة العراقية للمرحلة الانتقالية وبناء على موافقة مجلس الرئاسة، قرر مجلس الوزراء اصدار هذا القانون. بهدف هذا القانون لتامين رعاية مناسبة للمصابين بالاضطرابات النفسية والتخفيف من معاناتهم ومعالجتهم في وحدات علاجية متخصصة تتوافر فيها الشروط الملائمة ولغرض ايجاد تشكيل تتظافر من خلاله جهود الجهات المختصة في متابعة اوضاع هؤلاء المرضى بما يضمن تنظيم مكوثهم في الوحدات العلاجية المغلقة تحت الاشراف الطبي والقضائي ويؤمن حقوقهم الانسانية والاجتماعية ضمن برنامج علاجي تاهيلي منظم يسعى الى شفائهم وحماية المجتمع من خطورتهم وتنظيم العلاقة بين اللجان الطبية النفسية العدلية ذات الاختصاص الفني وبين الجهات العدلية المختصة.

Mental Health Law No. (1) for the year 2005.
According to the provisions of Section 2 of the extension of the Iraqi state law of the transitional administration with the approval of the Presidency Council , the Cabinet decided to issue this law.

In order to secure suitable care for people with mental health disorders and alleviate their suffering this law was issued. The mental health patients are to be treated in closed specialist units where appropriate conditions are met under the supervision of competent authorities. Efforts are made to monitor the conditions of these patients by medical and judicial authorities to ensure their human rights and social within rehabilitative treatment program organizer seeks to allow the patients' recovery and protect the community from dangers.
