Description
An Act to provide for the care, treatment, and protection of persons who have mental illnesses, and for related purposes. The objects of this Act include (a) to ensure that persons having a mental illness receive the best care and treatment with the least restriction of their freedom and the least interference with their rights and dignity; (b) to ensure the proper protection of patients as well as the public; and (c) to minimize the adverse effects of mental illness on family life.Note: The Mental Health Act 2014 (MHA 2014) was passed by the Western Australian Parliament on 16 October 2014 and will replace the Mental Health Act 1996 (MHA 1996) no earlier than late 2015.
