Description

South African Human Rights Commission Act (Act No. 54 of 1994)

Thus Act intends to regulate matters incidental to the establishment of the Human Rights Commission by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1993; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The Human Rights Commission must:
a) promote respect for human rights and a culture of human rights;
b) promote the protection, development and attainment of human rights;
c) monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic; and
d) annually require relevant organs of state to provide it with information on the measures that they have taken towards the realisation of the rights in the Bill of Rights concerning housing, health care, food, water, social security, education and the environment.
