Description

The Botswana National Policy on Mental Health is produced in line with the long term Vision 2016 of Botswana and the Botswana National Health Policy, which seeks to ensure access to good quality and essential health care by all citizens of Botswana, and to assure an equitable distribution and utilization of resources and services.

The National Policy on Mental Health provides a framework to incorporate the objectives of the mental health programme into the existing general health care services. This policy will therefore be used to improve the provision and delivery of comprehensive mental health services. Strategies for the policy's implementation include national mental health services management and coordination, mental health promotion, substance abuse prevention, performance improvement, services for vulnerable groups, including those affected by HIV/AIDS, and evidence based mental health services and research implementation.
