Likums regulē Latvijas iedzīvotāju civīltiesības (tai sakaitā ģimenes, mantojuma, lietu un sasitību tiesības). Panti, kas attiecās uz rīcībspēju ierobežošanu garīga rakstura traucējumu dēļ, kā arī aizgādnības noteikšanas jautājumus ir: Aizgādnība pār personām ar garīga rakstura vai citiem veselības traucējumiem (357 – 364.1 pants), Pagaidu aizgādnība (364.2 – 364.3 pants), Aizgādnība pār personām izlaidīgas vai izšķērdīgas dzīves dēļ (365 – 369 pants)

This law regulates the civil rights of Latvian citizens. It contains a number of articles regarding capacity and guardianship. The articles related to limited capacity and guardianship in people with mental disorders are: guardianship due to mental health and other health problems (articles 357 to 364.1), temporary guardianship (364.2 to 364.3), guardianship due to wasteful lifestyle (articles 365 to 369).
