Description

An important intention of the Samoa National Policy on Disability is to shift the discussion in Samoa toward recognizing that people with disabilities should be empowered, their rights recognized and that they should be included in the mainstream of social and economic life in Samoa.

The policy recognizes the family as the first level of support for people with disabilities. It calls for stakeholders to work together to create a human rights based, inclusive and barrier free society which advocates for and empowers people with disabilities.

This Mission will be achieved through addressing seven strategic core outcome areas: advocacy and awareness; early detection and intervention; independent living and economic development; provision of support services and assistive devices; education (training/sports/recreation); access (information/transport/built environment); women with disabilities.
