eCatalogue of indicators for micronutrient programmes

How to use eCatalogue of indicators for micronutrient programmes

There are four different ways to search for indicators:

  • by list of all indicators;
  • using the advanced search option;
  • through the generic logic model components; and
  • by typing the name in the quick search box.

The search instructions for each method are described below (help tips are also available on each page).

List of indicators tab

How this search works

All of the indicators available in the eCatalogue of Indicators are displayed on the List of indicators tab.

How to search and select indicators

  • Individual indicators are selected by checking the box to the left of each indicator.
  • In addition, all of the indicators can be selected at once by clicking on the checkbox next to the column header title "Name of the indicator" located on the filter bar.
  • To view the content of an indicator click on the “view” hyperlink.
  • In the "view" mode, indicators are selected by checking the “Add to ‘My indicators’” box.  Individual indicators can also be printed as a pdf or Word document from the "view" mode.

How to unselect indicators

  • To unselect a single indicator, click on its check box again and the checkmark will disappear.
  • In order to clear all of the selected indicators, click the hyperlink “clear selected indicators” next to the “export to Word” button.  This hyperlink will only appear after the first indicator is selected.

How to print or export selected indicators

  • Once selected, indicators will be automatically displayed in the "My indicators" tab during the web session.  They will not be saved once the web session closes, although they may be downloaded as a Word or Excel document or printed as a pdf during the sesssion.

Advanced search tab

How this search works

The Advanced search option allows you to narrow down the search by using six main criteria:

  • Category (of the intervention)
  • Type of indicator
  • Age of population group
  • Additional targeting criteria
  • Micronutrients
  • Delivery system

There are multiple options for each criterion.  Selecting one or more options within each box narrows the number of indicators displayed below the filter bar.  This is useful to make the list more focused and manageable.  By default, the indicators within all criteria are selected unless otherwise specified, so that if you do not select any options all the indicators in the eCatalogue of Indicators will be displayed below the filter bar.

How to select options in each criterion box

  • When the 'Advanced search' is first opened, all of the indicators in the eCatalogue of Indicators appear listed below the filter bar.  To narrow the list, select an option in one of the criterion boxes by clicking on it.  When selected, the option will remain highlighted within the box.
  • After selecting an option, the indicator results are listed below the filter bar and will be updated automatically, narrowing the indicators displayed to only those coded to the selected criterion.
  • To select more than one option at a time, press and hold down the “Ctrl” key before clicking on the additional option. Note that failing to press and hold the "Ctrl" key while selecting an option will de-select all other selected options in that particular box.

How to unselect options in each criterion box

  • To unselect a single option in a criterion box, just click on a new option that you are interested in using to filter indicators.
  • In order to unselect all options in a criterion box, click on the blue “x” at the top right corner of each box.

How to select indicators listed below the filter bar

  • Individual indicators are selected by checking the box to the left of each indicator.
  • In addition, all of the indicators can be selected at once by clicking on the checkbox next to the column header title "Name of the indicator" located on the filter bar.
  • To view the content of an indicator, click on the “view” hyperlink.  In the "view" mode, indicators are selected by checking the “Add to ‘My indicators’ box.  Individual indicators can also be printed from the "view" mode.

How to unselect indicators

  • To unselect a single indicator, click on its check box again and the checkmark will disappear.
  • In order to clear all of the selected indicators, click the hyperlink “Clear selected indicators” next to the “Export to Word” icon.  This hyperlink will only appear after the first indicator is selected.

How to print or export selected indicators

  • Once selected, indicators will automatically display in the “My indicators” tab during the web session.  They will not be saved once the web session closes, however they may be downloaded as a Word or Excel document or printed as a pdf.

Logic model tab

How this search works

The WHO/CDC generic logic model for micronutrients interventions in public health illustrates the relationships between resources used for an intervention and expected outcomes.  This generic logic model can be downloaded and adapted for a specific intervention.

The logic model describes at a high level the programme theory that applies to most vitamin and mineral interventions in public health and highlights key inputs, activities, outputs and outcomes that programmes might want to monitor or evaluate.  The logic model can be used for searching indicators following this generic programme theory.

How to select indicators

  • Roll mouse over the logic model - all of the boxes that change colour are clickable and each box serves as a filter for the indicators allocated to it.
  • Click on the desired box (its colour should turn darker) and all the indicators assigned to that box will be displayed below the filter bar.
  • A small rectangle at the corner of each box displays the number of selected indicators over the number of indicators included in that particular box.
  • Indicators previously selected through other search options and added to the “My indicators” tab will be automatically displayed in the logic model counts at the corner of each box and in the results lists below the filter bar.

How to select indicators listed below the filter bar

  • Individual indicators are selected by checking the box to the left of each indicator.
  • In addition, all of the indicators can be selected at once by clicking on the checkbox next to the column header title "Name of the indicator" located on the filter bar.
  • To view the content of an indicator prior to selecting the checkbox, click on the “view” hyperlink.  In the "view" mode, indicators are selected by checking the “Add to ‘My indicators’” box.  Also from the "view" mode, individual indicators can be printed as a pdf or Word document.
  • After selecting new indicators, clicking the “Update selection” icon will update the count of selected indicators in each logic model box.

Quick search box

How this search works

The Quick search box is located in the top right corner of the application. It allows you to quickly search for indicators from anywhere within the system using keywords assigned to each indicator. By default the box contains the words “Quick search” that will disappear as soon as the cursor is placed in the box.

How to search and select indicators

  • Type a keyword into the Quick search box and all indicator titles associated with the keyword will be listed below the box. Click on an indicator title and the indicator details will be shown in “view” mode.
  • In the "view" mode, indicators are selected by checking the “Add to ‘My indicators’” box.  Also from the "view" mode, individual indicators can be downloaded as a pdf, Excel or Word document and printed.
  • If no indicators are associated with the keyword entered, then the search will say “No result”.

How to unselect indicators

  • Unlike the other search methods, it is not possible to un-select an indicator from the Quick search box. Just delete your search term and a new search will start.

My indicators tab

What is the "My indicators" tab?

All the indicators selected through the different search methods are compiled on this page.

What can I do with the indicators added to the "My indicators" tab?

  • Click on the “view” mode to see the details for a specific indicator title. From the “view” mode, individual indicators can be printed as a pdf or Word file.
  • All the indicators that are selected can be exported as a pdf or Word file to your computer by clicking the buttons “Export to pdf” or “Export to Word”
  • Remember that indicators are not saved once the web session is closed and should be exported or printed to avoid losing search results.

How to unselect and clear the selected indicators

  • To un-select a single indicator, click on its checkbox again and the checkmark will disappear.
  • Click on the hyperlink “Clear selected indicators” to clear all selected indicators from the “My indicators” tab.
