Resource Database on Tobacco Industry Interference

To protect public health policies from the commercial and other vested interests of tobacco industry, at its Eighth Session, the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), adopted a decision requesting the Convention Secretariat “to set up, through or with support from the Convention Secretariat’s Knowledge Hub for Article 5.3, a resource database comprising evidence-based information, such as tobacco industry policy submissions and funded groups, derived from the Parties and observatories and other evidence-based information from WHO and observers to the COP [emphasis added].”

In accordance with this decision, the Convention Secretariat worked together with the WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub for Article 5.3 - role performed by the Global Center for Good Governance in Tobacco Control (GGTC) at the time - to develop this Resource Database. This Database includes position papers, statements, reports, correspondences, minutes of meetings with tobacco industry representatives, submissions on product ingredients, contracts and agreements, and other relevant documents, including from entities that could be categorized as the tobacco industry, and funded groups, inter alia, organizations and individuals that work to further the interests of the tobacco industry.
